Mooniak is a type foundry and typographic design studio based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, co-founded in 2015. It is the leading studio for multilingual fonts, typography and text technology in Sri Lanka and the region.
What Mooniak Does
Mooniak pioneers Sinhala and Tamil multi-script fonts for the web and print, and maintains a large collection of Free and Open Source font projects. Beyond typeface design, Mooniak is active in the publishing industry and provides consultancy on:
- Font licensing and type selection
- Typographic design for trilingual (Sinhala, Tamil, English) communications
- Language technology and script encoding
- Multilingual branding and visual identity
Key Projects
Over the years, Mooniak has developed and published numerous typefaces covering Sinhala, Tamil, Latin, and other scripts. Several of these are distributed under open-source licenses and used widely across Sri Lanka and the South Asian diaspora.
Role
As founder and Managing Director, the work spans typeface design, font engineering, project management, client relationships, and advocacy for open-source typography in Sri Lanka.
